With the Moon I run, Far from the Carnage of the Fiery Sun

It's been a while since I last posted to the blog.  Suffice it to say that I'm still getting used to the idea of having a blog to chart my progress on this journey to 26.2.

The training runs have been going well.  It's taken a bit longer than expected to get my rythym and form back, but I can see progress.

The only real issue I've encountered is a dull pain in my left knee.  Aches and pains are a part of training, so I've just continued to strengthen it on off days and gym days. I've also spoken to my doctor and he informed me it was nothing serious.  Overall, with the isolated excerices and strengthening measures, it feels like it's well on its way to not being a big issue.

My most recent run was good, but not solid.  I hit my time (1:30m)  and mile goals (6 miles), but as I look back on it, I know I can do a better job with my breathing cadence and form.  I'll continue to put a focus on my foot work, posture and deep breathing techniques on future runs.

The weather for the run was a bit hot and humid, but I started later in the evening to decrease sun exposure.  The second half of the run was completed by moonlight which was much less brutal.

I'm well on my way to 26.2.  I promise to update the blog on a regular basis so that those interested in following my progress can monitor it at their leisure.

Marine Corp Marathon Training Begins

About a month and a half ago, I registered for the Marine Corp Marathon (MCM) being held on October 29th in Washington D.C.  Given completion, this would be my second Marathon in as many years.  Many people ask why I would choose to run 26.2 miles.  My response is because 26.3 would be absurd.

In all honesty, I love running distance.  It gives me time to process my day while challenging myself at the same time. The combination of the two gives my life balance, and as result, I experience a sense of sanity.

I couldn't wait to get started on the training for the MCM.  Yesterday, commenced the training season.  The weather was nice (a bit warm), but I didn't feel great.  My body felt a bit achy and I didn't know it until I got going, but I was figthing a bit of acid reflux.  All in all, I met my goal of completing a six miler in an hour and a half.  I crossed six miles in 1:28:06.

Above is a picture of the sign for Murphey Candler Park.  This place is home base for me.  I try to include it on my runs as much as possible, because it served as the training grounds for my first marathon.  The trail around it is approximately a mile and half and is very relaxing as the lake serves as the centerpiece of the trail.  It's my fortress of solitude and serves as an inspiration on my many training runs.
